What should businesses to consider before reopening?
- Can you conduct a suitable Covid19 risk assessment?
- Is your business premise safety-proofed? (2m rule, hygiene)
- Can you lower anxiety levels within your staff? How?
- Can certain staff work from home?
- Do any staff fall into the ‘vulnerable’ category?
- Can you safely implement social distancing?
- What type of signage do you need?
- How will you ensure high levels of hygiene are maintained?
Do all businesses need a coronavirus risk assessment?
Early government draft documents reveal that businesses with more than 5 employees must provide a risk assessment of working conditions if they intend on reopening.
As the situation is rapidly changing from week to week, it’s important that employers keep up to date with government guidelines and the medical advice available online.
We at Siren Training have been closely following the news and our team of health and safety experts have been busy working on various solutions we can offer to our diverse range of clients.
Under UK health and safety law, your organisation has a responsibility to manage the health, safety and welfare of your employees by providing a safe workplace environment.
What steps do we need to take to stay compliant?
This starts with a risk assessment. A risk assessment that assesses the COVID 19 virus risk will allow your company to:
- provide and maintain a work environment without risks to health and safety
- provide and maintain safe systems of work
- provide adequate facilities for the welfare of workers at work
- provide any information, training, instruction or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from work
- monitor the health of workers and conditions at the workplace for the purpose of preventing illness arising in the context of work.
What does a Coronavirus risk assessment include?
A Coronavirus risk assessment will look at the following risks in relation to COVID-19:
- Workplace cleaning
- Employee exposure
- Employee travel to work including foreign travel
- Hygiene
- Use of changing facilities, showers, kitchens etc
- Use of equipment
- Maintaining 2m distances
- Mental Health of staff
- Appropriate signage
Once the risks have been identified the risk assessment will outline how to control the risks using safe systems of work and the implementation of control measures.
Can I use a coronavirus risk assessment template?
You can download a template risk assessment and complete it yourself, however the approach needs to be thorough and specific to your workplace. Templates are there for you to build on to create a COVID- 19 risk assessment suitable for your premises and staff. Business owners and responsible people have a legal obligation to protect your employees. This has been made very clear by the government.
Even when the hazard is the same (i.e COVID 19), the control measures you adopt may have to be different from companies similar in size to yours because the conditions, risk, industry, stock and occupancy may be different.

1st Aid At Work 3 Day Course
The Teacher Jonas is a fantastic and a truly inspirational instructor and trainer.
I have attended many First Aid courses but this was by far... read more one of the best, not at any point did anyone look bored. Jonas kept it fun and very interactive, with lots of equipment to play and use to help us build up our skills and self-confidence. He is a very good presenter, also very approachable, energetic, receptive, enthusiastic, supportive and a good motivator. His confidence and passion for what he was teaching came across absolutely superb, he made me feel at ease, his delivery is clear and to the point. He drew on some great examples and was great at keeping the energy levels up by ensuring we were all engaged. He helped to develop the confidence of all individuals by using hands on activities to bring out the best in me and to all the class, I thought the whole process from start to finish was superb. Finally Jonas genuinely inspired me and made me feel really supported and encouraged. A very much enjoyable course. I definitely will be using Siren Training Again in Future for any other courses and training I may need or require....
And To Jonas many thanks for the 3 enjoyable days. ***Brilliant***
