Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between EFAW and FAW?

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a 1-day course designed for low-risk environments (like corporate offices or small shops) and covers immediate lifesaving interventions. The First Aid at Work Course (FAW) is a comprehensive 3-day course suited for higher-risk workplaces (like construction sites or large factories) and covers a much wider range of illnesses and injuries.

How long does a first aid training certificate last?

In the UK, both the 1-Day EFAW and the 3-Day FAW certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. To remain qualified, you must complete a requalification course before your certificate expires. The HSE also strongly recommends an annual half-day refresher course to keep your skills current.

Which Paediatric First Aid Course do I need?

We run two different paediatric courses here at Siren. The Paediatric First Aid course (OFSTED approved) is an extended course designed to comply with OFSTED regulations, making it best suited for teachers working in schools, nannies, and au pairs. The Basic Emergency Paediatric course is best suited to private nannies and parents.

Can I fail a First Aid Course?

At the end of First Aid courses, you must complete a multiple-choice question paper. If you fail this, you will have one opportunity to retake on the day. If failed a second time, you will need to book and sit the course again, giving you 2 more opportunities to retake.

Certification & Accreditation: FAIB vs. Ofqual

Siren Training is a First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) approved provider. This accreditation satisfies the HSE due diligence requirements for employers, offering a rigorous standard of quality assurance equivalent to Ofqual-regulated qualifications.

Do I need to bring anything to the training course?

Bring your photo ID. You do not need to bring any medical supplies or equipment. We provide all necessary training materials, including CPR manikins and bandages. We recommend wearing comfortable, practical clothing as the course includes practical, floor-based exercises such as performing CPR and placing casualties in the recovery position.
