Martyn's Law
Martyn’s Law, named in tribute to Martyn Hett, who tragically lost his life alongside 21 others in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack of 2017, aims to standardise security preparedness across the UK to better protect the public. Officially known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, it was introduced in Parliament on September 12, 2024, and is currently under review.
2 Tier Martyn's Law
Martyn’s Law introduces a two-tiered model for security compliance, with requirements varying based on venue type and capacity
Standard Tier: For Venues with a Capacity of 200–799
What’s required?
Notify the Regulator:
Businesses must register their premises with the Security Industry Authority (SIA), providing details about the responsible person and the venue within a specified timeframe. Siren can support you with the process.Implement Public Protection Procedures:

What’s required?
In addition to Standard Tier measures, Enhanced Tier venues must:
- Provide Detailed Documentation: Outline how public protection measures reduce vulnerability to terrorism and mitigate harm. This includes monitoring premises, controlling access, ensuring physical security, and safeguarding sensitive information.
- Designate a Senior Individual: A designated leader must oversee compliance with Enhanced Tier requirements.
